Care Bill Information

Donna, Lynn, Pat, and Steve at RT in DC 2010

2010 UPDATE ON THE CARE BILL

On March 8th and 9th, 2010, RT in DC was held, to promote and encourage  our congressional leaders to get our medical imaging bill “THE CARE BILL” passed.
The bill is now in the U.S. House of Representatives, but has yet to be introduced back into the U.S. Senate.

As of June 1, 2010, there are 94 co-sponsors in the US House of Representatives. None in the Senate at this time. There are 3 co-sponsors from Indiana:

Congressman Andre’ Carson
Congressman Dan Burton
Congressman Baron Hill

But this still leaves 7 other Congressmen from Indiana that need to get behind this bill and be a co-sponsor!

It has been estimated that if this bill gets passed, there will be an estimated savings of over $50 million dollars the first 5 years!  Plus there will be NO cost to pass this bill.

This bill will help protect patients with safe Medical Imaging.  Do you know that hairdressers in some states are better regulated than people who perform medical imaging exams?  Imaging and radiation therapy professionals remain largely unregulated, leading to repeated and low-quality imaging exams, increased health care costs, delayed patient treatment and patient safety concerns.   ONLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL SHOULD PERFORM MEDICAL IMAGING EXAMS AND RADIATION THERAPY TREATMENTS.

Use the link below to see who your Congressman  might be in your district.  Would you like to contact your U.S. Representative or Senator, but don’t know exactly what to say?  We have a link for that, also.  LESSON 101, will show you how to write a letter.  Or you can always e-mail or phone your Congressman.

Whatever you do, please contact your Congressman and encourage him to get behind the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibilty and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Bill---HR 3652---to require education and certification standards.

Remember, this is your profession AND your future.
